KARL-HEINZ POHL
1966 Beginning of the study of Sinology, Japanology and art history at the Universities of Hamburg, Bonn and Toronto with degree in 1978. In 1982 he received his doctorate from the University of Toronto. Between 1983 and 1987 Karl-Heinz Pohl was scientific assistant (with Hans Steininger) at the seminar for Sinologie of the University of Würzburg. In 1987 he was appointed Professor of Chinese Literature and Intellectual History at the University of Tübingen. In 1992 he moved to the University of Trier, where he worked as a professor of Sinology.
His areas of research include Chinese intellectual history, ethics and aesthetics of modern and pre-modern China, modern and classical Chinese literature, and intercultural communication and dialogue between China and the West.
Hispublications mainly concern the poet Tao Yuanming, literature, calligraphy and painting in the Qing Dynasty, modern Chinese poetry of the 80s and Confucianism.
