The Research Institute of Foreign Linguistics & Applied Linguistics of HENU is 2005’s first set of key scientific research institutions which in 2009 passed HENU’s acceptance and complete its construction, and in 2010 it has become the second batch of key scientific research institutions of HENU.
The Institute has a total of 10 members, of which two are full-time staff, 8 are part-time staff; 5 Professors, 5 Associate Professors; 10 Dr. ; 4 under 40 years old, 3 age from 41 to 50, and 3 over 50.
From 2009 to 2013, the Institute published 79 thesis and 7 academic monographs, undertook 89 research projects of all kinds and levels, and won 25 scientific research awards.
The Research Institute has three main research directions: Cognitive Linguistics, Functional Linguistics and Applied Linguistics.
Cognitive Linguistics focuses on the introduction of foreign cognitive linguistics theory and the cognitive study of syntax. On the basis of digestion and absorption the foreign studies, it brings in basic theories and core ideas of cognitive linguistics to domestic linguistics academics, with an aim to describe, explain and deduce the well-known linguistic phenomena so as to enrich and develop the current linguistic theories.
Functional Linguistics, base on the extensive reference and absorption of the Functional Linguistic theories of the European functionalist schools, American functionalist school and system-functional linguistics schools, European pragmatic schools and Anglo-American pragmatic schools, actively explores the theories of various functional linguistic schools, and a t mean time pays attention to the applied research of functional linguistics.
And Applied Linguistics research mainly includes stylistic study, foreign language teaching theory study and English-Chinese comparative study.
