An introduction of Majors in The School of Foreign Languages

1.English

As a national first-class undergraduate major, state-level characteristic discipline and a national comprehensive reform pilot major, it enrolls students in non-normal orientation. We emphasizeon the teaching of basic theories and knowledge of English language, literature, history, politics, economy, diplomacy, social culture to ensure that students can master systematic basic knowledge of English language, professions, humanities, science and technology; Students are required to have solid basic language skills such as listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation, and the ability to acquire , update knowledge, research , innovate, and the capability to engage in teaching, research, translation and management;In addition, we also require that the students have the ability of analyzing, solving problems and lifelong learning, and learning about the latest research achievements and development direction of English majors. They are also required to master the principle and application of computers, and get access to information from books and the Internet. Meanwhile, cultivation of Chinese studies and aesthetic appreciation are also cultivated.

2. Russian

The Russian Program is a provincial key major. It enrolls students in non-normal orientation. Through the training of applied practice and theory courses in Russian, students are capable of working in the foreign affairs, business and trade, culture, press and publication, tourism and other fields as specialized talents of translation, scientific research and management, with their solid basic knowledge of Russian language, basic skills, proficient Russian language competence. We invite renowned foreign experts and scholars to give various lectures to improve academic standards. We have established long-term friendly collaborations with some universities in Russia and Belarusia. We send students on exchange programs with Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia and Belarusian State University every year to broaden their international horizons and cultivate high-quality talents.

3. Japanese

The Japanese Program enrolls students in non-normal orientation. We adopt targeted teaching methods based on the characteristics of students to develop talents with high-quality, rich knowledge and strong ability to cater to the demand for social development. We aim to cultivate compound foreign language talents with comprehensive quality, solid Japanese proficiency, and relevant expertise. We have established long-term friendly relationships with various universities, including the “2+2” dual degrees programs with Kogakkan University, one-year exchange program with Taisho University.

4. German

The German Program enrolls students in non-normal orientation. We lay emphasis on the integrated skills of listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translating. Students are cultivated to acquire both essential abilities on German language and literature, and knowledge on history, culture, and geography of German-speaking countries, which helps to groom international and knowing-all-type talents with profound language proficiency, a wide range of humanities and social science knowledge and excellent learning, critical thinking, creative and cooperative capacities. In addition, the advantage that all the faculties have overseas study experiences makes it possible to create a strong Germanic cultural atmosphere in the daily teaching.

5. French

It enrolls students in non-normal direction. We pay attention to cultivate competitive innovative-oriented talents in French with global perspective. The students are expected to build a solid foundation in French, extensive knowledge of natural and humanities and social sciences and strong cross-cultural communication skills. They are also cultivated in independent analysis ability, working ability to solve practical problems and scientific research to ensure that they can engage in French translation, teaching, research, and management in fields including business trade, education, culture, and publication. They will be entitled with literature degree with duration of 4 years.

6. Translation

It enrolls students in non-normal direction. With the central task of applied talent cultivation, it aims to cultivate people who strive for excellence in virtue and knowledge. Students are expected to have global perspective, qualified ability on English-Chinese bilingual translation, the cultivation of humanities and innovative thinking, and be capable of work in international communication, please speak service, culture, and education, etc. meanwhile, the facility are characterized by rich practical experience in interpretation and translation, most of which serve as masters of translation. The training program highlights case-based teaching and career orientation, and invites industry elites to give short-term lectures or hold special lectures. As a result, students won awards in the "FLTRP Cup" National English Speech Contest and Cross-Strait Interpretation Contest. Graduates have a wide range of jobs, and have made outstanding achievements in studying abroad, and postgraduate entrance examination.
