A Brief Introduction to the School of Foreign Languages

The School of Foreign Languages of Henan University has a history of 105 years. At present, there are 105 teaching staffs, including 87 full-time teachers, 16 professors, 30 associate professors, 14 doctoral supervisors, 46 master’s supervisors, 4 experts with special government subsidies, 2 excellent experts in Henan Province, 6 outstanding young and middle-aged teachers in Henan Province, 1 Yellow River scholar in Henan University, 4 tran-century academic and professional leaders in Henan Province, 3 specially appointed professors in Henan Province, and 2 specially appointed professors of Henan University. It has four major languages, namely, English Language and Literature, Russian Language and Literature, Japanese Language and Literature, Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics. And the School of Foreign Languages possesses the English Language and Literature Postdoctoral Research Station, Foreign Language and Literature First-level Discipline Doctoral Program, Foreign Language and Literature First-level Discipline Master Degree Program and two professional degree authorized programs: Master of Translation and Master of Education, the English Language and Literature Research Center, the Institutes of Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, the Institutes of Translation Theory and Russian Language and Literature, and Editorial Department ofForeign Language Research. English Language and Literature is a national specialty and the first level key discipline in Henan Province. Russian Language and Literature, Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics are also provincial key disciplines. Since the right to grant master’s degree in 1980, especially in 1998, the right to confer doctor’s degree has been granted, foreign language colleges have trained a large number of high-quality doctoral and master’s students, who have become the backbone or leaders in their respective posts and have made positive contributions to the prosperity and development of the motherland.
