On December 16, the awarding ceremony of the 8th Sun Pinghua Academic Award Fund of Japanese Studies was held in Beijing. CPPCC Vice-Chairman and CSCLF ChairmanWang Jiarui, Japan’s former Prime Minister Fukuda Yasuo, Vice-Chairman of CSCLF Jing Dunquan, the Minister-Counsellor of the Japan Embassy, Sun Xiaoyan and her families, as well as Chinese and Japanese friends attended the awarding ceremony.
Lan Liliang, the Director of Institute of Japanese Language and Literature,won the third prize of monographs by his book Fiction Narrative Research of Kenzaburo Oe.
“Sun Pinghua Academic Award Fund of Japanese Studies” was found in Auguest,1997. In accordance with Sun Pinghua’s last wish, his family donated hisrewardto CSCLF toset upthis fund whichaimedat supporting the academic researches andtalentscultivation, rewarding excellent academic achievements and developing friendship between Chinese and Japanese. It is the only one domestic academic award fund that specifically target young and middle-aged scholars to establish a research system of Japanese studies. The reviewing and awarding ceremony held every three years, mainly for young and middle-aged researchers in the academic field of Japanese studies (humanities and social sciences). Since its establishment 20 years ago, the fund has successfully held eight reviewing and rewarding activities, selected 104 academic works with high standards and unique insights in the field of Japanese studies in China. This activity is of important meaning for mutual understanding and friendship between Chinese and Japanese.
The 8th "Sun Pinghua Academic Award Fund of Japanese Studies" awarded a total of 25 winning works, of which 12 are monographs, 12 for dissertations and 1 for translation.
