At 19:00 on Jan 5, 2018, Pro. Wei Zaijiang from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies visited HENU and made an excellent academic report for teachers and students at Third Hall of North Building, SFL.
With “Why Metonymy is Possible?” as the lecture’s theme, Pro. Wei made in-depth discussions onthe importance of metonymy in Linguistic from the aspects ofresearch object, targets, definition and classification of metonymy. Taking poems and internet buzz words as examples, he analyzed the application of metonymy in real life as well as its development prospect.With humorous and witty language, real-life examples and open mind,Pro. Weiturned the unintelligible and obscure linguistics vividly and easily. At the end of the lecture, Pro. Wei patiently answered the questions raised by students and further clarified the relationship between metonymy and other disciplines, creating an enjoyable and strong academic atmosphere.
