At 2:30 pm on March 28th, the foreign language college invited the professor Li Weiping, who is one of the doctoral supervisors from Shanghai International Studies University,andthedirector of the English Academic Committee,thedirector of the Academic Committee of Foreign Languages Academics and editor-in-chief of the British and American Literature Research Forum, to give a lecture on the theme of "A View of British Fiction" at the third hall of the North Building.ProfessorGao Jihai attended and presided over the lecture. Many students from the School of Foreign Languages attended the lecture.
The third hall was totally full, which can witness Prof. Li Weiping’s ultra-high popularity. Just like a British gentleman, he tells us about all aspects of British novel literature. His full understanding of novels and characters shows his profound accomplishments in English literature.
Prof. Li Weiping started with the literary origins of the characters in the English novels, and talked about the influence of Western myths, heroic epics, and medieval English narrative literature, the position and role of the characters in the novels, the evolution of the characters in English fiction, and basic features of Characters in traditional novels, modernist novel, postmodernist fiction. He told us the Characters of English literature deeply . He affirmed that "British fiction possesses innumerable classic characters. Its type, quantity, and influence are rare in world literature"; and proposed the significance of the characters in the novel: it not only enables us to get enlightenment from the past, but also provides a meaningful academic path for literary studies.
Finally, the students asked some questions freely, and had a profound discussion with Prof. Li Weiping. He proposed a key point - the study of the dissertation should be based on text, which is agreed with students andprofessorGao Jihai.
