On April 17th, 2018 Industrial and Commercial Enterprises Cross-Border Investment and Trade Matchmaking Conference was held in Zhengzhou International Conference and Exhibition Center. 273 overseas companies from 46 countries and regions in the world gathered in Central Plains, seeking cooperation with thousands of enterprises in Henan. Chen Runer, Governor of Henan Province, Chen Siqing, President of Bank of China, and Zhang Qingsong, Vice President of Bank of China attended the opening ceremony. The 93 students selected by SFL provided superior translation services for the Matchmaking Conference and won the public praise.
As a major event of the 12th China (Henan) International Investment and Trade Fair, this Matchmaking Conference was jointly sponsored by People's Government of Henan Province and Bank of China. Henan Provincial Commerce Department and Bank of China Henan Branch undertook the conference. With high specifications, great influence, and strong sense of technology, this year's Matchmaking Conference attracted numerous companies from overseas, which made the number of companies achieve the highest level among previous CIFIT sessions, according to the Organizing Committee Office of the CIFIT. The governments of Germany, Hungary, Russia, Romania, Ghana took the initiative to organize their enterprises attending the Matchmaking Conference. The chief business representative of Western Australia and the vice president of the Romanian Chamber of Commerce led their delegations attending the conference.
In order to provide superior translation services for this Matchmaking Conference, and also to improve students’ practical abilities, the SFL selected competent students from postgraduates and undergraduates serving as interpreters. After nearly one-month training, 93 students from English, French and Russian majors stand out to become interpreters for the Matchmaking Conference. At the conference, our interpreters provided "one-to-one" translation services for representatives from China, the United Kingdom, France, Russia, and Zambia and etc.
The Matchmaking Conference covers the province's advantageous industries such as planting, breeding, modern agriculture, agricultural and sideline products, food processing, high-end equipment manufacturing, new energy and new materials, environmental protection, information technology, bio-pharmaceuticals, old-age care, tourism, and education. Such wide range of industries requires interpreters with high-level professional knowledge and skills. Our students did a great deal of previous work before the conference. They printed the brochures and product catalogues of the Chinese and foreign companies they would serve and translated the difficult points in advance, kept practicing repeatedly, and finally provided high-quality translation services at the conference site.Students all said that the conference provided a rare exercise opportunity for themselves. By participating in this activity, students not only updated their knowledge reserves, but also found their own learning deficiencies. More importantly, they broadened their horizons and improved their overall quality.
After the conference, Zhai Xiaojuan, representative of Zhengzhou Yixiantong Translation Co., Ltd., who was in charge of the translation work of the Matchmaking Conference, said that the students of SFL, Henan University excellently accomplished their translation task, during which they showed an industrious and pragmatic working attitude, a positive spirit and a solid professionalism.(Li Wenjuan)
