Professor Wang Hong from Suzhou University Gave an Lecture to the Faculty of Foreign Languages

At 7:00pm on December 28th,an academic lecture titled “On the Translation of Ancient Chinese Classics of Science and Technology from the Perspective of Media Studies”was held by the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Henan University. The speaker, Professor Wang Hong, is a doctoral supervisor and postdoctoral collaborating supervisor as well as the chief expert in translation of classics and the leading scholar in the discipline of translation. Professor Guo Shangxing presided at the lecture, besides,postgraduates, doctoral students and teachers attended the lecture.

Professor Wang presented some important ancient books as well as the significant achievements and influence of ancient Chinese science and technology.Then, he introduced the translation of ancient Chinese classics of science and technology from the perspective ofmediastudies and exemplified it from three aspects including theoretical research, historical research and applied research.In addition, he mentioned that various approaches (such as transmission,ecology and hermeneutics) are available to translate classics of science and technology.

As the lecture drew to a close, Professor Wang answered questions from the students and added that close attention should be paid to the overall process of the translation of ancient Chinese classics of science and technology (namely the subjects, contents, approaches, audiences and effects of translation) in a bid to promote the spread of ancient Chinese classics of science and technology.

This wonderful lecture, from which the audiences found enormous benefits, discussed the translation of ancient Chinese classics of science and technology from the perspective of media studies. It also provided teachers and students with an opportunity to appreciate the charm of the translation of classics of science and technology.(author:Jiang Shu)
