At 2:30 p.m. on April 26, 2018, an excellent academic lecture entitled Interaction between First Language and Second Language in Bilingual Processing was held at School of Foreign Languages. It was delivered by Wang Xin who is a senior lecturer in the Department of Linguistics and her research mainly about the language processing and cognitive representation of bilinguals. This lecture is presided over by Ms. Jiang Ling, Vice Dean of School of foreign languages; what’s more, a lot of postgraduates, doctoral students and teachers attended the lecture with great enthusiasm.
In order to demonstrate the phenomenon of bilingual of surface features, Ms. Wang deeply analyzed the common language phenomena in daily life from words to sentences, explained the presentation of "words" in the brain. Moreover, she noted that the process of speech production can be roughly divided into three parts: firstly, conceptualization. The speaker makes clear what she wants to express; secondly, the speech organization in human body chooses the appropriate vocabulary for the meaning expression, and establishes the semantic grammatical structure as well as pronunciation structure of the vocabulary; finally, pronunciation, the speaker uses the pronunciation organ to express the vocabulary he chooses. At the ending part of the speech, Ms. Wang talked about more details about the selective and non-selective extraction of language in the vocabulary process as well as their respective concepts.
This eye-opening speech has inspired the attendees greatly and made them think about innovative ideas.(author: Xia Jie)
