On the afternoon of November 18, 2019, an excellent academic lecture entitled“The New Trends of Sci-tech Translation” was heldat School of Foreign Languages. The lecture was delivered by Professor HuangZhonglian ofGuangdong University of Foreign Studiesand presided overbyJiangLing, Vice Dean ofSchool of Foreign Languages. Postgraduatestudents, doctoral students and relevant professional teachers of School of Foreign Languages attended the lecture with enthusiasm and interest.
At the beginning of the lecture, Prof. Huang introduced the current situation of sci-tech translation. He pointed out thatthe trade war was essentially a competition of science and technology. With the increasing strength in the international competition, China has become the leading role in the world. Consequently, the object of translation in China is shifting from “the foreign language” to the “Chinese elements” ,especially in the field of technology,. Then Prof. Huang explained the new trends of sci-tech translation. The growth mode of China once focused on export, and the economic strategy emphasized “introducing”. Currently, China tends to pay equal attention to import and export, giving priority to “bringing in” and “going out” equally. To satisfy the current demands, we should continue to implement strategy of “prospering the nation with science and education”, and attach importance to the cultivation of talents on sci-tech translation, contributing to the national rejuvenation. In the end, Prof. Huang discussed the revival of sci-tech translation. The fact that science and technology are the primary productive forcemeans that we should improve the weak aspects of development, and remain committed to the cultivation of scientific and technological talents, especially the sci-tech translation talents.
At the end of the lecture, Professor Huang gave detailed answers to the questions raised by the audience. He concluded that translation learners should strengthen their basic skills, try to broaden their own scope of translation and improve the ability through continuous learning, improving their weakness.
