On May 24th, 2021, Zhou Min, Professor of Hangzhou Normal University, was invited by Bai Chuan Lectures held by School of Foreign Languages to deliver her lecture entitled “Cultural Research, Literary Research and Ideological and Political Construction in Courses” in the third hall of north building of School of Foreign Languages. The teachers and students of School of Foreign Languages attended the lecture. The academic lecture was hosted by Fu Jiangtao, the assistant dean at School of Foreign Languages.
To lead in the topic, Professor Zhou Min firstly talked about the truth that the western media maliciously stigmatized these six Chinese who survived the “Titanic” shipwreck. Then she pointed out that behind the literature, culture, and texts, it is filled with invisible ideological implantation. As the bridge of cultural exchange and carriers of cultural dissemination, teachers should not only point out the artistic characteristics of literary works for their students, but guide students back to the “historical scene” to discover the connotative meaning in the deep bottom of those literary works, for the cultivation of students’ critical thinking and intercultural vision. In this way, they could be admitted by the contemporary society to become comprehensive talents, where cultural education can be integrated into Language teaching.
The teachers and students who participated in the lecture had the opportunity to have a discussion with Professor Zhou Min on how to extract the ideological and political elements of the curriculum in teaching. At the end of the lecture, An Jialiang, Secretary of the Party Committee of School of Foreign Languages, made the concluding speech to all the participants. Professor Zhou Min’s wonderful lecture provided ideas and enlightenment for our college to further explore the development path of foreign language disciplines and conduct ideological and political construction of foreign language courses. Finally, the lecture was ended with warm applause from all the teachers and students.
