On October 22, 2021, Dr.Vincent T. Greenier,the senior Lecturer in Linguistics & TESOL at the University of Aberdeen, U.K., delivered his second lecture to the teachers and students of School of Foreign Languages via Tencent Meeting at 7 p.m. He is scheduled to give two lectures aboutEnglish Education. This second lecture was entitled “How Love and Creativity Affect Work Engagement in ELT: A Multinational Study”. Almost 300 graduate students and faculty members of Henan University and other universities attended the lecture with interest and excitement.
Dr.Vincent T. Greenierearned his B.A. at Eastern Michigan University (U.S.A) in 2003 and his Ph.D. at University of Auckland (New Zealand) in 2018.He has been an ESL/EFL teacher and teacher educator for nearly two decades and has lived and taught in several countries across four continents. His main research interests include creative approaches to language teaching and learning, leadership and professionalism in ELT, language teacher education, language teacher identity, and innovative approaches to qualitative research. His articles can be found in journals such asTESOL Quarterly,System,RELC,The Iranian Journal of Language Teaching Research, and others. The key findings are as follows: 1) Pedagogical love is not a mawkish as it seems, but is a significant factor in work engagement; 2) Creativity can facilitate work engagement, and it is a stronger predictor for work engagement, or vice versa; 3) Creative and loving teachers are highly engaged. Taken together, it was revealed that teachers with greater dispositions towards loving pedagogy and teaching for creativity are more energetic, vigorous, enthusiastic, perseverant, and resilient in their teaching activities. Moreover, gender and nationality had no statistical significance.
At the end of the lecture, all the audience expressed their acknowledgement for these impressed lectures withDr. Vincent T. Greenier. His lectures deepened the understanding of the creativity and love especially in English language teaching, which has received unanimous acclaim from all the audience.Thesignificance of international academic exchanges is always strengthened by School of Foreign Languages (HENU), and dozens of international academic lectures are held each year in various disciplines of International Distinguished Lectures (IDL), which will be updated by many other distinguished academic lectures in the near future.
