The 5th International Academic Linguistics Seminar & International Distinguished Lectures (No. 100-109) were Successfully Held by School of Foreign Languages

The 5th International Academic Linguistics Seminar& International Distinguished Lectures (No. 100-109) kicked off on September 19 with the expectation of many teachers and students. Professor Malka Rappaport Hovav of the Department of Linguistics of the Hebrew University of Israel and Professor Ian Roberts of the Department of Theoretical Applied Linguistics of the University of Cambridge are invited to present a series of lectures. The themes of their lectures are titled “Lexicalization Patterns” and “General Linguistic Theories” respectively. These lectures are delivered with two distinguished lectures per day and successfully rounded off on September 23. This series of lectures was held on the Zoom platform and the Tencent conference platform respectively, and more than 480 teachers and students from well-known universities at home and abroad paid extensive attention and enthusiastically participated.

Malka Rappaport Hovav (PhD, Department of Linguistics and Philosophy, MIT) is Professor of Linguistics at the Hebrew University of Israel, Director of the Center for "Language, Logic and Cognition", and founder of the Israel Association for Theoretical Linguistics (IATL). people. The five lectures on “Lexicalization Model” are her first lecture series in mainland China. This series of lectures explores the interface research of lexicon and syntax, the revision and challenge of Talmy's typological dichotomy, the event structure theory of lexicalization patterns, and the evolution of l lexicalization patterns in cross-language contexts.

Ian Roberts is currently a professor at the Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics at the University of Cambridge, UK, a member of the British Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences, a member of the European Academy of Sciences, a member of Downing College, Cambridge University, UK. These lectures cover five related topics in general linguistic theory, ranging from quite general and non-technical to somewhat more specific and technical ones. They are unified by a general aim to broaden and deepen linguistic theory in the general context of Chomsky’sMinimalist Program for Linguistic Theory.

Prof. Ian Roberts, Prof. Malka Rappaport Hovav, and their love of academics and profound knowledge have impressed the students from other colleges who attended the lectures online and actively interacted with experts.
