On April 24, 2023, Dr.Vincent T. Greenier,a senior Lecturer in Linguistics & TESOL at the University of Aberdeen, U.K., delivered his first lecture to the teachers and students of School of Foreign Languages via Tencent Meeting at 7 p.m. He is scheduled to give ten lectures aboutGlobalization and Localization in Language Teaching and Learning: Innovations in Pedagogy, Policy, Practice, and Partnerships.These ten lectures lasted for two weeks (April 24~28, May 8~12), and ended successfully on May 12. Over 200 postgraduates and faculty members attended the lecture with interest and excitement.
Dr.Vincent T. Greenierearned his B.A. at Eastern Michigan University (U.S.A) in 2003 and his Ph.D. at the University of Auckland (New Zealand) in 2018.He has been an ESL/EFL teacher and teacher educator for nearly two decades and has lived and taught in several countries across four continents. His main research interests include creative approaches to language teaching and learning, leadership and professionalism in ELT, language teacher education, language teacher identity, and innovative approaches to qualitative research. His articles can be found in journals such asTESOL Quarterly,System,RELC,The Iranian Journal of Language Teaching Research, and others.
The main contents delivered byDr. Vincent Greenier include Sustainable models of international mentorship and telecollaboration in Applied Linguistics doctoral programs, ELF as a communicative approach in the language learning classroom, Promoting intercultural competence through ELF materials design Transcultural identities and wellbeing in an EMI context: Exploring the perspectives of lecturers at an International Branch Campus (ICB), Advancing a culturally situated conceptualization of creativity in the language classroom, Global perspectives on leadership in language teaching, Formative Assessment in the EFL classroom: Advancing innovation in times of change, Conceptualizing “ideal” learning spaces in language education: Global challenges, Transcultural pedagogies in EFL/ESL Education: Tension, tolerance, and transformation, Are you a “global minded” educator? Finally, Dr. Vincent Greenier advocated that various teaching theories should be applied to the language classroom in accordance with local conditions.
At the end of the lecture, the participating students, scholars and audience expressed their great benefits and took a group photo with Dr. Vincent Greenier on the Tencent platform. Dr. Vincent Greenier’s lecture series gave the audience a more systematic and scientific understanding of “Globalization and Localization in Language Teaching and Learning: Innovations in Pedagogy, Policy, Practice, and Partnerships”. In sum, the audience was deeply moved by Dr. Vincent Greenier’s passion for academics and profound knowledge, interacted with each other as well, and they all look forward to his next lecture.
Our School of Foreign Languages has always attached great importance to international academic exchanges, and dozens of international academic lectures in various disciplines are held every year,which has received a good response. In 2023, the School of Foreign Languages will continue to strengthen its international work and hold more high-level distinguished international academic activities.
